About us

The Sine Nomine Singers are an amateur choir based in Cardiff, South Wales, established in 2004 by musical director Richard Jenkins.

We are a chamber choir of 20 – 25 experienced singers, many of whom sing with other local choirs in addition to the Sine Nomine Singers.  Unusually, we do not have weekly rehearsals, but meet for two or three rehearsals prior to each concert.  We typically perform three or four times each year, with concerts taking place in various churches around South Wales, including local parish churches, Ewenny Priory and Llandaff Cathedral.

Our repertoire consists of a wide range of sacred choral music, from 16th century motets by Byrd to 21st century pieces by Karl Jenkins (a school friend, but not a relative, of our musical director!) and a plethora of other music in between.  We enjoy performing popular works such as Faure’s Requiem and Handel’s Coronation Anthems, as well as smaller anthems by composers such as Mozart, Elgar and Rutter.  We also like to vary our concert programmes by including beautiful, but less well-known pieces, such as Greig's Ave Maris Stella and Rachmaninov's Bogoroditse Devo.

Solo work during concerts is undertaken by members of the choir and in addition to choral works, we often include instrumental items in our concerts.  We are especially eager to provide opportunities for talented young students to perform in public.

If you would like to listen to an evening of popular choral music with a few lesser-known "future favourites" sung by a local choir, then visit our upcoming events page to find details of our next concert.   Alternatively, email sine.nomine.cardiff@gmail.com and we will keep you up-to-date with all our latest news.

We look forward to seeing you at our next concert!
